Notes: This is the first of a series of 5 compilations of Jobson's music. Jobson first mentioned these in an autumn 2012 website update as "three compilation albums under a new title of "Retro." I am aiming to complete the first of these - "Retro 1972-1979 - in time for [...] late March [2013]". However, in Sep 2019, it was announced there would be "five planned compilation albums, one for each decade of Eddie Jobson's outstanding career". 1971-1979 The Band Years was released 26 Oct 2018.

(1) is a solo by Jobson from Fat Grapple's debut concert in 1971 at Newcastle University. (2, 3) are from Curved Air's Air Cut. (4, 5) are the b-side and a-side respectively of Jobson's 1976 solo single. (6) is the non-album b-side to Bryan Ferry's "This is Tomorrow". (7-9) are by Roxy Music: (7) is from Siren, (8) from Stranded and (9) from Country Life. (10) is a live track with Frank Zappa from Zappa in New York (where it was first called "I Promise Not to Come in Your Mouth"). (11-16) are from UK and the remaining tracks are from Danger Money. Quite so much UK content seems a bit pointless: surely most people buying an Eddie Jobson compilation already have UK?

Jobson writes how he "wrote the majority of the music on both [UK] albums". He goes on that other than lyrics and "some melodic contributions" from Wetton, he presented the "In the Dead of Night" (11-13) suite  to the rest of the band "essentially fully completed". He implies he composed (15), with lyrics coming from Wetton, while for (18) Wetton contributed "melodies and lyrics" and Jobson praises him for turning "an otherwise very technical tune into an actual song". Jobson wrote (19) before UK was formed, but the piece "had no obvious place on the first album"; Wetton added lyrics. (HP, 24 Nov 18)
