It was gloomy and damp in Connecticut, so we drove up here where the sun was shining during the late afternoon hours. This is a cool little town to walk through. It's a typical New England town with a nice mix of shops, restaurants and parks. We walked around the downtown area, then used the Rail Trail to head over to Vermont Veterans Home Deer Park, before looping back to the downtown area. We walked a total of about 4 miles, on a chilly spring late afternoon and evening.

This is the rail trail through town. We used the trail to get from the downtown area to the Vermont Veterans Home Deer Park. The portion of the trail we walked is paved. There's a cool food stand just off the trail that I wanted to try, but it was cash only and I don't carry cash anymore.

The Deer Park at the Vermont Veterans' Home in Bennington is a family-friendly attraction featuring about 20 fallow deer, a trout pond, and a picnic area. The deer are in a large fenced area and are used to people. There were two young deer in particular, who were very curious about Mandy and Lexi. There is also a war memorial on the grounds, as well as a gazebo and some nice views of the surrounding area. This was the highlight of our visit to Bennington, which also included a walk through the downtown area and the rail trail.
